Here’s how it works:
A site visitor submits her credit card number to your website. The
number is encrypted and sent to your server where it is stored with
other entries as a meaningless string of characters.
From there, only one key will turn these meaningless strings back
into credit card numbers. That key is stored in a decryption tool which
only you possess, completely inaccessible to would-be attackers.
To access the secure information, plug the decryption tool into
a USB port on your computer and the download and decryption begins
automatically. When done, remove the decryption tool and rest assured that the information transfer is secure.
