DisneyVision!

From May 2nd through the 8th, Denise, Ken, Dave, Mike, Alice, Joe, and Barb Welsch visited four of the Disney parks, as well as Cape Canaveral.

The first day they saw Disney's Animal Kingdom. . .

An unusually large begging bird was strutting around the "Firecracker Cafe" looking for handouts.
On our "African Safari", we saw a few crocodiles. I'm not sure, but I think they just grabbed some alligators from the Florida swamps and stuck funny noses on them.
Again, the safari. Ruffian elephants.
We were told flamingos get pink from carotine they ingest from eating so many shrimp. We were also told poachers were a problem around parts of the park, so what do you believe?
The "Tree of Life" reminded me of a Bev Doolittle painting. How many animals can you spot?
...it was a really big fake tree.

The next day Dave arrived, and we spent the day at Epcot. . .

The cheesy arm they attached for the millineum celebration seemed a little Mickey Mouse to me. Oh, so was the crummy paste job I did splicing two photos together.
Having a ball.
Here's about a 40 degree arc of "World Lagoon" shore. You can see the Mayan temple from Mexico, but the trees hide a couple other countries' structures, like the Norwegian Viking ship.

...the next day was the Magic Kingdom. The lines weren't bad at all -- Disney put a lot of thought into making the waits short and not uncomfortable.

Cinderella's castle, which I hear gets fantastic reception.
Walt Daveny and Mickey Mike.
Topiary n (1908) a plant shaped by the art of training, cutting, and trimming trees or shrubs into odd or onamental shapes
Here we all are not waiting in line.
Here's a caveat: if you try to take a picture of Cinderella's castle, tourists will invariably jump in front of your view.
Uncle Michael "Andretti" Welsch.
You would not believe how hard it is to get parents to look the same direction for a photo
Whaddya think, not enough flash?

Caution: The "DisneyVision!" link at the top of the page plays "It's a Small World". A little Mickey Mouse music goes a very long way.

...the next day we toured Cape Canaveral, and somewhere in there we visited "Downtown Disney", which is basically an outdoor mall that caters to Disneyish families.

This engine was on the space shuttle, in 60-some successul launches.
Hey, LEGO my Denise!
This building was originally designed to hold four, count 'em FOUR, Saturn V rockets being constructed. I think they said it was 500-some feet tall.
This would be as much of the Saturn V as I could get in the viewfinder.
Walking on the moon.

Chuck's New Home away from Home

Earlier in the year (Memorial Day), Denise and Ken moved to North Liberty. On June 18th, Joe, Barb, Ruth, Ivar, and Lisa were invited to the first dinner party.

"La grande salle". We call it the "big room" The kitchen sort of sits in a corner of the big room.
Mom thought the border on one of the five bedrooms was cute.
Another one of the children's rooms has a neat mural.
Dweebs try to figure out the screwy cable system
It's a split level (not split foyer) house.
If you find beautiful bathrooms exciting, maybe this will cure you.
Knowing our neighbors would like us for our compassion, we avoided mowing this patch where we found some bunnies nesting for the entire year.
This would have been a picture of a huge 24x30, 4' high crawlspace, but some kid got in the way.
. . .and still dinking with the wiring.
The downstairs bathroom is home to a lot of knick-knacks.
Over the years, Denise has collected a lot of vases. There's a shelf that runs around most of the downstairs, so. . .
Denise shows off her Fur Elise.
Everyone goes their seperate ways.
